Frequently
Asked QuestionsAre you a private clinic?
Agoo became a public clinic in September 2014. All of our medical services are covered by RAMQ. The only services that are charged are accessory fees for procedures, vaccins and visits with other healthcare professionals such as psychologists and physiotherapists.
Are ear piercings offered at AGOO?
We have certified nurses and nursing assistants who perform ear piercings on site. We also offer EMLA cream to numb the area.
Is Dr.da Costa taking new patients?
Unfortunately, Dr.da Costa will not be accepting new patients as his practice is full for the moment. There is, however, a waitlist that you may add your child's name to.
I recently gave birth, how do I get access to an AGOO physician or my pediatrician is retiring, are any of your doctors accepting patients?
We currently have a wait list for check ups with a family doctor and we would be happy to add your child or children to this list. We are unable to confirm the wait times for appointments. However, our team is ever growing and we will have several new family doctors joining who are ready to take on new patients as of September 2016. As such, we predict that the wait times will likely drop. If your child needs to consult a specialist like a pediatrician for a specific issue, please send us a copy of the referral from your doctor.

Rebecca Kennedy, MD
Family MedicineDr. Rebecca Kennedy is a graduate of the faculty of medicine at the University of Calgary, class
of 2012. She moved to Montreal to complete her family medicine residency with McGill
University at St. Mary’s Hospital. During her training she developed a love of community
paediatrics and chose to focus her medical practice on the care of children and families. Dr.
Kennedy also has an interest in teaching the next generation of medical students and family
medicine residents, and holds a faculty appointment with McGill University.
Dr. Kennedy’s journey toward a career in medicine is unique. After 3 years working as an
Interior Designer for an architectural firm in Calgary, Alberta, she was presented with an
opportunity to volunteer on a hospital ship in West Africa for 5 months. The experience had a
significant impact, and in 2001 she decided to leave her career in interior design to volunteer full
time for a not-for-profit organization that served poor communities in several resource-poor
countries around the world. Following the tsunami of 2004, she joined a disaster relief team to
Sri Lanka to help those affected. It was there that she met several doctors with the skills and
training she longed to have. She returned home inspired to go back to school to pursue a
career in medicine. She continues to maintain an interest in global health, and values
opportunities to use her medical training to serve those less privileged both at home and
abroad.
At the end of a rewarding day at the clinic, Dr. Kennedy happily spends her time with her
husband and her own two young children. -

LAUGHTER YOGA
This laughter group is dedicated to families. Age doesn’t matter, all that does are parents and their children wanting to laugh together.
Need something to do with your child that will bring you closer together?
Sharing a laugh bridges the gap between people. Who more to benefit from this then parents and their children. Through laughter, parents and children will get to experience joy at its purist moments. Parents get busy and society teaches children that being with their parents isn’t the norm. This group will end that norm and bring back the essence of bonding between parent and child. Laughter yoga was invented by Dr.Kataria.
Laughter Yoga is about getting the benefits of laughter without needing a reason to laugh. The Yoga is for the breathing and meditation part of the session. There will not be any demand of physical poses.
You can RSVP by calling Agoo at (450) 687-6888 ext 113 as there is maximum of 12 Participants. Or email fss@agoomd.com

NEURO-PHYSIOTHERAPY
Insults to nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves) can have long lasting effects of individual functioning and performance in daily activities leading to difficulty in participation at school, sports, poor quality of life and decreased productivity.
Neuro-physiotherapy is directed towards minimizing consequences from the damage, increase physical function and improve performance on activities. The therapy is directed at improving balance and coordination, improving fine and gross motor functions, strength and endurance training that are critical to independent function in daily life. Physiotherapy in neurological conditions is a combination of therapist’s guided movements as well as structured environment to enhance learning. Therapy is focused to provide interactive therapeutic environment to maximize function while tapping brain’s plasticity to improve function. The aim of intervention is to provide repetition of movements so as to enhance motor control and learning within an environment that is motivating yet challenging for success.
Neurodevelopmental therapy
Neurodevelopmental treatment (NDT) is a hands-on treatment approach used by physiotherapists in management of neurological conditions, such as cerebral palsy, head injury, spinal cord injury, neurodegenerative conditions. NDT focuses on postural control;facilitation of optimal movement patterns in children with disordered movement control, impaired walking performancewith the goal to optimize function, improve balance and coordination and maximize independence in activities. People following neurological insults have limited (restricted) movement patterns that limits smooth trajectory of arms of legs. Repeated and correct movement patterns have shown to improve motor performance. NDT is based on guided or facilitated movements while stimulating tactile, vestibular, and somatosensory receptors within the body. NDT emphasizes on alignment, postural control, weight shifts and movement control while inhibiting untoward movement patterns and facilitating typical movement pattern eventually leading to acquisition of skill.NDT affords continuous assessment and modulation of therapist’s assistance throughout the movement execution.
During the first appointment, the child will undergo assessments for tone, postural control, various test to assess physical function both performance and capacity assessments for balance, walking, depending on the condition. All assessments, goal settings and exercise program are mapped with parents and child's schedule. Clients receive a tailored therapy plan based on their assessment to help them achieve their full potential. Targeted goals and treatment plan will be periodically reassessed.
Health issues:
- Improve static and dynamic balance and co-ordination
- Functional re-training
- Improving walking performance
- Strength and endurance training
- Reducing spasticity
- Improving arm and hand function, eye-hand co-ordination
- Training on dual task performance

AUDIOLOGY
Agoo believes in newborn screening to detect congenitial hearing loss at birth. We preform audiology screening for newborns to one year olds.
When a child is experiencing a speech, language, communication or development delay, they are referred to an audiologist to rule out possible hearing loss. If a hearing loss is diagnosed, patients and families are given information and strategies to help with communication challenges, are provided with the appropriate therapy, and are referred to the right resources for treatment (ENT if surgery is deemed necessary or a hearing aid specialist if hearing aid are considered). Audiology evaluations are completed at agoo for children from three years old to adults.
Central Auditory Processing (CAPS) Disorder affects up to 5% of school-aged children. These students have difficulty processing the information they hear and are usually characterized as “poor listeners”. They have normal hearing ability, but there is a disconnect between what is heard and what is understood. These children’s brains interpret sounds differently than those of others.
CAPS testing is administered to assess for auditory processing disorder for children form 7 years old and older.

NEUROPSYCHOLOGY
Neuropsychology is a field interested in establishing a relationship between the brain’s functioning and the child’s behaviours, which not only includes the child’s cognitive functioning (e.g. language, perception, memory, attention, executive functioning, etc.) but also behavioural (e.g. impulsivity, aggression) and psychological (e.g. anxiety, depression) manifestations. The goal of the neuropsychological assessment is to establish a profile of the child’s strengths and weaknesses to better understand the origin of difficulties experienced, which may be consequent to neurological, neuropsychiatric, and/or learning problems. Through the assessment, the child’s needs are put forward. Depending on the difficulties manifested, subsequent consultations with other professionals may be necessary (e.g. psychologists, occupational therapists, speech therapists) to help improve weaknesses noted. Recommendations will also be proposed to assist the family and the school. In addition, compensatory strategies can also be put forward to help the child palliate difficulties experienced.
Possible reasons for consultation:
- Intellectual disability
- Intellectual Giftedness
- Attention and executive difficulties (e.g. impulsivity, planning, organization)
- Learning problems (e.g. reading, writing, math)
- Motor difficulties (e.g. dyspraxia)

DOCTORS NEEDED
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the agoo Children's Health & Wellness Center, I would like to invite you to visit us and consider joining our team.
My colleagues and I have worked very hard to build a medical center where children feel at home, in a pleasant environment but also trustworthy and effective for both doctors and parents.
On the professional side we are proud to say that agoo offers an amazing opportunity for medical specialists and other healthcare professionals to be part of a multidisciplinary team, working together in a single facility towards better patient management. Please note that patients are never charged for registration or any services covered by medicare.
I invite physicians who wish to be part of a dynamic team to join us and benefit from a state-of-the-art health facility serving a huge population of suburban families. We are particularly interested in pediatricians, family doctors, adolescent medical specialists, otorhinolaryngologists, dermatologists, & ophthalmologists, but welcome anyone who feels they would like to share our vision of delivering above-average quality of care to our pediatric & adolescent patients.
Agoo offers electronic medical records (Medesync), spacious and child friendly offices and separate waiting rooms for sick children.
Furthermore, everyone at agoo is offered an excellent opportunity for top of the line clinical research, publications and conferences with all the support required on site.
Clinic hours are flexible and ideal for full or part-time availabilities including evenings and weekends. We offer opportunities for multi-discipline workshops, CPR accreditation, and many more as we are definitely interested in new concepts and ideas.
I am hoping that you will find the time to visit agoo on site or virtually through our website and click here for an introductory presentation to our clinic.
I would appreciate the opportunity to discuss with you possible ways that we can work together.
Looking forward to meeting you soon.
Sincerely,
Dr Tina Sampalis

For appointments
My child is sick and I want to know the easiest way to get an emergency appointment, what should I do?
The number of emergency spots that are available each day can vary. We prioritize patients that are registered with family doctors at agoo for these spots. If there are many spots available, we then open up Bonjour-Santé for the public.
You can see if we have spots available by visiting the following website and entering the Agoo clinic name:
https://bonjour-sante.ca/apps/LandingPage/#/landing
Our phone lines open at 8am 7 days a week. If your child is not a registered patient at agoo, we will put their name on a waitlist for an emergency appointment and give priority to registered patients. If there are still spots available, then you will get a call back just after 10am to book the emergency appointment. If you do not receive a call back, it is because all of the emergency spots have been filled for the day.
**Please note that we do not, under any circumstances, book emergency appointments via email.
I am a registered patient with Dr.Ludmila Kireva or Dr.Nicole Audet and I need to book a check-up with my child's family doctor, how do I do this?
For more information, please see the online booking page.
I booked an appointment on Bonjour-Santé with Dr.Ludmila Kireva or Dr.Nicole Audet and I would like to also have an appointment for vaccines at the same time, how do I do this?
Please notify one of the receptionists if you know that you would like vaccine appointments with your check ups. We will put a note in your file and make sure to book the appointment with vaccines every time. Otherwise, if there is no note in the file, you will receive a call from one of the receptionists if your child is due for vaccines at the time of your check up and you will be able to confirm whether or not you would like to also book a vaccine appointment.
If Dr.Audet and Dr.Kireva accept to see my other child and I would like to book their first time check up with them on Bonjour-Santé, can this be done?
First time visits with these doctors absolutely need to be booked either by phone or email. The first time visits are longer and a patient file needs to be created. We thank you for your understanding.
